About this lot
A limited-production Douro red from Quinta da Pacheca, one of the historic estates of the Douro Valley. The 2016 Vale de Abraão Colheita Selecionada was produced from grapes sourced predominantly from Vale de Abraão (85%), supplemented by Vale do Rio Pinhão (10%) and Vale da Vilariça (5%). The grapes were fermented together in traditional granite lagares with foot treading. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine matured for 18 months in second-use French oak barrels, combining the concentration of Douro fruit with extended, carefully controlled oak ageing. Only 4,800 bottles were produced from the 4,000-litre lot. This example is individually numbered Bottle No. 1941. The 2016 is described as a concentrated, structured wine showing ripe black fruits such as blueberry and blackcurrant, floral freshness, chocolate nuances, firm but polished tannins and a long, persistent finish. Current specialist listings identify the principal varieties as Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
